Plot changes:

1) Should be modern times and modern Montreal. Montreal is an international city with enough local flavor as to make shooting a movie there desirable. Also production companies like to shoot in Canada because the union rules make shooting cheap.

2) Louie should not be just a bad person. There must be an alternative motive for his attempt on the life of Ted. It would be good if one of Ted’s partners in NY wants him dead and sets up Louie to do it. Margot can be waiting at the airport to try and pick up Ted.

3) Margot should not die. She should be saved for the happy ending. It could be that Ted’s partner is in cahoots with Ted’s NY girl friend in the murder attempt. It would be better if the girl friend goes to Montreal and is killed or implicated with the murder. It could be that the NYC partner and the girl friend are one and the same.

4) Cab driver should be a running comic relief character. Sort of a crazy buddy who has instant rapport with Ted and helps him out. Also Cab driver should be a Limo Driver. Ted purloins a limo where the driver is holding a sign that says “Mr. Wu” and Ted is able to bluff his way into getting the use of the limo for the week. The driver should know all along that it’s a con, but since he likes Ted and is having a good time, goes along with it.

5) The Driver should have his own romantic interest. She should be a comic relief character also – either overweight or funny looking or a wise-ass wise-cracking bitch with a heart of gold. It would be good if she and Margot save the day in at least one outrageous situation with comic dialog.

6) The character of the Radio Announcer should be an obnoxious TV reporter. There should be at least one scene where he is shooting the aftermath of one of Ted’s adventures where he shout’s “You Again!” The Radio Announcer should be present at several plot points and wind up covered with paint or digging his way out a pile of vegetables or having his wig blown off or other slapstick pratfall. He should be the one who makes the 1-800-tips sort of offer without any intention of paying off. Ted catches him in an embarrassing situation and forces the TV station to pay.
